SWAT Raids Home of Rapper Sean Kingston; Mother Arrested for Fraud and Theft

FORT LAUDERDALE - On Thursday, rapper Sean Kingston was arrested on fraud charges in California, just hours after a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in South Florida and seized a van full of items.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston was taken into custody without incident on a Florida warrant near Fort Irwin, an Army base about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Earlier in the day, Broward detectives arrested his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, during the raid on the rapper’s 14,000-square-foot home in Southwest Ranches, a wealthy suburb of Fort Lauderdale that is home to many celebrities and professional athletes, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill.

Broward County prosecutors directed all inquiries to the sheriff’s office, which has not disclosed specific details about the charges due to an ongoing investigation. Following the raid, reporters observed authorities loading a van with items from the mansion, which was surrounded by expensive sports cars.

Sean Kingston's Legal Issues Renowned for hits like "Beautiful Girls," "Fire Burning," and "Eenie Meenie," Sean Kingston, 34, has encountered numerous legal challenges despite his musical triumphs.

In 2021, music video producer GXDLIKE accused Kingston of assault and gun threats, allegations Kingston vehemently refuted, per TMZ.

A warrant for Kingston's arrest on grand theft charges was issued in 2020 after claims emerged that he received jewelry without payment. Kingston's entanglements with jewelers over unpaid items have resulted in multiple lawsuits.

In 2016, Kingston was embroiled in a brawl at the Penthouse Nightclub & Dayclub in Los Angeles, during which he was reportedly relieved of a $300,000 chain, as TMZ documented.

In 2011, Kingston was involved in a severe watercraft accident in Miami Beach, resulting in critical injuries to himself and a female companion. Medical treatment uncovered a torn aorta, leading to emergency heart surgery.

Following an investigation that began in Dania Beach, BSO's Dania Beach District deputies along with members of BSO's Strategic Investigations Unit and Davie Police SWAT served arrest and search warrants at the home.

As a result, Kingston's mother, Janice Turner, 61, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Kingston, who was renting the mansion, is accused of not completing payments to VER VER Entertainment on a $150,000 entertainment system that included a 232-inch television. According to the complaint, Kingston persuaded the company to accept a lower down payment and credit towards the purchase by saying he would produce promotional videos for the company with Justin Bieber.

"He tells a story. He's got basically a script, he says that he works with Justin Bieber, and that he obviously puts on a big show here. This is a rental house, he doesn't own it. And he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it. And then he simply never pays," said attorney Dennis Card, who has a civil case against Kingston.
